How We Can Help Our City – UPDATE

How is Plymouth Covenant responding to our city that is hurting after the death of George Floyd and the destruction caused by the riots and looting that followed?   We have two primary ways that we are engaging right now:

  1. We are spending time understanding how we arrived at this point in our country, listening to our black brothers and sisters, learning by reading books or watching documentaries about racial inequity and engaging in ways that we can be a part of the long-term change in the systems that are not built for equity and justice for all.  The Covenant Church has a Love Justice Do Mercy (LJDM) team that has compiled a list of great resources to help us on this journey to pursue justice. https://covchurch.org/justice/engage-and-respond/
  2. We are responding to the physical needs of our neighbors by partnering with smaller churches in the North Minneapolis and South Minneapolis neighborhoods who are caring for their communities.  These smaller churches do not have access to broad networks or resources to address the need for food and personal hygiene products.

We have partnered with Community Covenant Church in North Minneapolis and with Destino Church, a multiethnic, bilingual Covenant church plant in South Minneapolis.    In June we will be collecting a list of most needed items and distributing them where the needs are greatest. As they continue to assess the needs in their community they will provide updates on how best we can effectively care with and through their church family.

Sanctuary Covenant may have need for volunteers throughout the summer.  Please visit their website to sign up or call them before going.  https://sanctuarycov.org/

PCC is partnering with local churches that are meeting the needs of their community in North Mpls and South Mpls.  The greatest needs are for the items listed below.  Items in BOLD are the most needed at the moment!

Items can be dropped off in the Hub at all services or on Tuesday & Saturday during the Loaves & Fishes meal distribution.
