WHAT WE BELIEVE
As members of the Evangelical Covenant Church,
we believe in:
The centrality of the Word of God
We rely on the perfect Word of God—the Bible—to direct our faith, principles, and actions
The necessity of new birth
We believe salvation depends on making a conscious decision to abandon the sins of our past and commit to living for Jesus Christ
The whole mission of the church
We stress both the Great Commandment found in Matthew 22:36–40, and the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18–20—essentially, we love God and love others, so we must answer His call to spread the Lord’s messages of love and service
The church as the fellowship of believers
We recognize we need to develop relationships and connect with a community of believers that is open to each race, class, and gender
A conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit
We recognize one God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who uplifts and restores even the most broken of us through the power of the Holy Spirit
The reality of freedom in Christ
We focus on uniting followers of Jesus Christ by offering truth, love, and compassion rather than focusing on what may divide us
THE EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCH
The Evangelical Covenant Church is a rapidly growing multiethnic denomination in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, our denomination values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through a faith with Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.
